“Sometimes travel to new places leads to great transformation” – Fortune Cookie

From Tuesday-Friday I was in Minneapolis, and unable to update my website. I did draw every day though as I brought my sketchbook with me.

I saw some beautiful places while I was away.

I’m more than halfway through my resolution. I’ve been so wrapped up in other interest I am finding less time to dedicate to making full fledged pieces. Most of my work for the past few months has been quick sketches. I am noticing my sketches are faster and faster.

Looking at the goals I hoped to achieve:

  1. Create a piece of art every day in 2017. – CHECK (SO FAR)
  2. Improve my own art and hone my style. -CHECK
  3. Learn about and meet new artist. -KINDA
  4. Inspire my husband to do art again. -SADLY NO

At some point I’ll need to dig back at least with digital art and polymer clay. I think I like those mediums the most because it’s easier to share my other work with other people.

Below are the pieces of art I drew while I was away.

Dolphin Adventure

I’m inspired by dreams, cute things and hot men. lol – moi

I was inspired by my hot husband.

During our vacation we did the Dolphin Discovery at St. Kitts. We met and interacted with two dolphins Angela and Dante. It was such an amazing experience we’ll never forget, and I knew when I got home I wanted to do an image inspired by the experience.

This particular chibi doesn’t have a large head and small body like my others since I had to think about the proportion of the dolphin.

I’ve noticed I’m got  faster with my work, and trust myself to not mess up. I don’t save as many layers as I once had. New techniques also help save time; the create clipping mask tool is a godsend! I also have noticed I’m taking what I have learned about drawing eyes and just making them my own. From sketch to finish this took approximately 4 hours.

In the images below you can see the photo where I drew my inspiration, my sketch, and my progress in Adobe Photoshop.

Go Fish

I decided not to live on an island and have returned from my Caribbean vacation.

Seriously, I’ve only been home for three hours as our day was filled with travel. During the vacation about 84% of the time I was able to let go and absorb the adventure. I enjoyed sharing new and familiar experiences with my family, and being their guide by showing them the ropes of taking a cruise. A lot of my drawings were inspired by the trip and my family.

This was photo taken as we were sailing away from St. Kitts on our third day. Yes it was hot outside, and yes I’m wearing a sweater, but I wanted to look good for the photo! I was inspired by this photo and decided to do a chibi drawing.

Even though I was bummed I could not post every day, I am proud of myself for keeping up with my resolution of creating art every day. Check out all my drawings at the end of my post.

We had cable television during our cruise, and 16% of the rest of my time I could not escape what was going on in the United States of America from the Presidential Inauguration, Women’s March, Feuding with Mexico and to the Immigration Ban.

One of my drawings was inspired by the Women’s March. I was so proud to see so many Americans fighting for Human Rights.

As my husband and I were making our way back home we witness a peaceful protest at the Denver International Airport.

The world has changed. Welcome home.
