Still waiting to see a dolphin. – Mom

I’ve been showing my mom my polymer clay creations, and she has requested a dolphin.

This is my first attempt at making a dolphin. The only reference I used was from magnet we got from our trip to St. Kitts.

I mixed light blue polymer clay with some glitter, and the belly was made with an opal polymer clay. I had a really tough time with the mouth/head piece, and I wasn’t sure if I should add a mouth. Ultimately I decided not to add a mouth, and felt the two clay colors created the illusion of one.

After baking the piece cracked in several places, and I’m not sure why. The only difference this time around is I created an aluminum hood around the piece to prevent cracks.. irony. I smoothed clay over the cracks and baked it a second time, and that seemed to remove most of the imperfections.

Not bad for a first time making a dolphin. At this time the jewel pin is drying to turn it into an accessory. Tomorrow I’ll be glazing it to give it a nice shine. I’ll add to this post once it’s complete.

I forgot how much I enjoy working with polymer clay.

Thanks for reading and have a great night!

Leo Accessory

I didn’t spend my afternoon lion around! – moi

I spent my afternoon creating the Leo accessory from the concept art I made yesterday. I did end up changing the eyes. This is just the way I like to make my eyes right now.

The teeth were the hardest part of this whole piece and I redid the eye paint so many times because they did not look identical from each other. It was so nice to not have to work with white clay!

Below is a picture I posted on Instagram modeling the accessory. I look forward to wearing this piece. ❤

Mog Pin and Micro Cactuar

As a guy I love to wear brooches and pins, and wanted to wear something that people would recognize and gender-neutral. – moi

A while ago I purchased some jewelry pins and wanted to use them. I knew I wanted to come home and create an accessory, but wasn’t sure of the direction.

When my husband and I went out to lunch today we talked about possible ideas. At first I was unsure of the direction of what I wanted to go the ideas were something related to the following Game of Thrones, Final Fantasy, X-Men, dragon, a heart or something completely off-the-wall: a banana with a top hat – my husband’s idea.

I’ve been playing a lot of Final Fantasy lately, and thought about doing a moogle head as a pin. When I got home I went to work while listening to Limit Break Radio. I finished up fairly quickly and wanted to try making something super small and ended up creating a micro cactuar.

You can see in the photos below how big these pieces are.

Any request ideas on what I should draw or create next?

Thanks for reading.
